Something can be done about it.
The Scientology Volunteer Minister program is the largest community outreach activity of the Church. A Volunteer Minister is someone who is trained to provide assistance to another using the workable technologies developed by L. Ron Hubbard. These technologies are based on The Scientology Handbook and include resolving conflicts, dealing with communication, handling drug problems, and providing relief from emotional or physical distress through the use of spiritual assists. Anyone of any faith can become a Volunteer Minister. It takes very little time and they are invited to do so.
Disaster Relief
It is the job of a Volunteer Minister to restore hope and well-being to society. Volunteer Ministers in their yellow t-shirts and jackets have become synonymous with disaster relief efforts around the world since the tragedy of September 11th in New York. It is little known that almost two dozen Scientologists from Toronto went to New York to assist. Six hundred Volunteer Ministers including several from Toronto traveled to Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Indonesia to provide aid to those devastated by the South Pacific Tsunami. Again Volunteer Ministers from Toronto travelled to New Orleans to help in relief efforts there.
The Volunteer Minister motto is “Something can be done about it” and they do.
Helping at Home
But there are disasters and emergencies closer to home. There are the daily crises of everyday living — a child who can't learn, trouble with the boss at work or marital conflict threatening everyone's happiness. Consequently, the Volunteer Ministers reach out in Toronto to help those in need to help themselves. The very visible yellow tent of the Volunteer Minister campaign has been seen at Dundas Square and City Hall amongst other locations and letting thousands know their good news.
The Necessity of Volunteer Ministers
As Mr. Hubbard wrote, "A Volunteer Minister is a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others.
"A Volunteer Minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Rather, he is trained to handle these things and help others achieve relief from them and new personal strength as well.
"How does a Volunteer Minister accomplish these miracles? Basically, he uses the technology of Scientology to change conditions for the better — for himself, his family, his groups, friends, associates and for mankind."
